Digital TV differs from analogue TV in more ways than one. Yes, digital TV is much better quality than analogue TV with no ghosting or static. But the trade off is that you need a better quality signal - measured in dB. If you do not have enough signal strength you will recieve no TV picture - digital TV is either on or off. The point where you loose TV image is called the digital cliff. As you get closer and closer to the digital cliff your TV image and audio may be come jittery, pixilated and can occationally cut in and out. |

But signal strength is not everything - far from it. In fact with digital TV the signal quality is just as important. Measured in BER (Bit Error Ratio), this value is more important that signal strength, because signal strength can be amplified. If your BER is too low, amplifying the signal will only amplify the errors, providing no improvement in quality. |
